Bethesda Softworks took a few years to develop Oblivion, and the end results are amazing. Oblivion has the story, the graphics, the custom soundtracks, the AI, and the hours upon hours of diverse game play that make a game enjoyable. We believe that Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion is the absolute best game to own for the Xbox 360, and we have given the game a 9.9 at the top of our top twenty Xbox 360 games list.
Even with this champion of games, there are a few parts that could have been improved a little. One small occasional problem is with frame rate drops during heavy animation and huge outdoor views. In addition, the loading screens and the controls for quick ability selection could have been slightly improved. And the biggest problem that we could find is that the game is only for one player. (Note: Bethesda, please make the next one a multiplayer online game, and try to put a little more animation in the blocky faces of the NPCs :) .
These few problems cannot even touch the enormous number of good qualities in Oblivion. The stunning landscapes and detailed textures combine for awesome visuals that are complemented with a huge assortment of creatures and combat animations. The AI is phenomenal with hundreds of NPCs that live in the game and go about their daily routines as you play. The detailed quest log and quick travel map help eliminate some of the boring travel in the game, and help players avoid the confusions that are found in similar Xbox 360 role playing games.
You can choose to play as a fighter, a mage, a thief, or your own unique combination of the three, and the game plays out unique to your character. As you journey through the thirty to forty hours of central game play, there are several days of unique side adventures that are just as detailed as the main story line. And even months later, after you have beaten every last corner of the map, the game is just as exciting the second and third time around as a new character. If you don’t own this one, don’t rent it. Buy it! As you can see in the prices listed below, for the cost of a few days of rental, you can own it and play it for months or years to come.
